Just got a 40k mile 98 mark viii fan for my 99 5.0. for 25 bux! Im not worried about mounting. Heres my question: I could get the controller as well, any way of making the controller work in the explorer, i mean they are both ford obdII, figured fan tuns on based off ect readings and ac relay on off functions etc....With some wiring, etc any reason why it couldn't work? Anybody tried? I like adapting factory stuff.....

Post some pics once you get it mounted, I'm planning this same project very soon.

Id also be interested in making a stock controller work for it, most aftermarket ones are $40 or more..

Right on....im a do more work send less money kinda guy....so let me see what i come up with....anybody have alldata?

Umm,
Measure

How do you plan on mounting it? I think you better solve that issue first.

The fan blade and motor alone are too deep to fit into the gap between the water pump neck and radiator. You need to find about 2.5" to fit it in there with maximum shroud trimming. That means moving the engine back or pushing the radiator forward

what about positioning it to the left or right? or just using the fan in the factory shroud?

also is the interference with the thread from the area wear the clutch fan screwed on? if so that could be dealt with with a side cutter.....

Well, don't cut that until you are sure it will gain you the needed clearance. I couldn't make any "real" electric fan work on the mounty without moving the radiator forward.
You want well over 3500 cfm of air flow

You might have better luck, but remember, once you cut that water pump neck you cannot get your original fan back on.

I'm very surprised no one has made a factory 94-95 mustang v8 fan work, they seem pretty thin and readily available and should flow enough air.

the claimed flow of the mark viii is 5000 cfm! its a 98 with the better and smaller motor as well
