I was wondering what I might expect to gain in HP and TQ from an xcal2 93 octane tuned, catback and intake 02 v8 4wd. Ive searched the forums and couldnt find much on this subject, might have just been my search terms. Checking out SCTs web page they list power gains for F350 and 03 cobras but dont have any numbers for the X. Hypertech lists 10hp and 50 ft lbs tq for a 02 Expedition 4.6 SOHC ( http://hypertech.com/get_dynochart.php?cid=39&vid=1385322&tp=jpeg ). I know that peak numbers arent that important, its the overall powerband, but I'd like to get a Xcal2 and know what kind of numbers I should expect. Thanks for the help!

Here is an example on my V6 SOHC ....

Thanks aldive! What is the stock crank hp rating on your sohc v6? I see you have done alot of mods... Mine is rated at 239 at the crank. Anyone else have any dyno experience?

It would have to be damn close to what the claim for a gain on the 99-04' mustang GT. We pretty much have the same engine except for different exhaust manifolds.

It depends on how much you have your tuner advance your spark timing in the tune. With the SCT tune, CAI, and exhaust you should be right around 300 @ the flywheel on the Explorer depending on how aggressive your tune is. The tune will give you quite a bit more punch off the line, because that is where Ford tends to soften things (retarded spark) quite a bit to let stock parts last longer.

Moved to Computers, Chips, and Tuning

It can still be discussed there

Surly you jest :D is no way with the above mods and a flasher, he will get 300 crank H.P, with a proper tune, maybe an additional 12 H.P, Max

Yes, with those mods above the Explorer 4.6 will see around 295-300 hp at the crank depending on how aggressive he has the vehicle tuned.

The stock exhaust is very restrictive which is one big factor in the difference in power rating between the mustang GT 4.6 (260) and the Explorer 4.6 (240). Adding an aftermarket dual exhaust will have a double affect because it is going from REALLY restrictive to REALLY open. The tuner will have quite a large affect also being that quite a bit of timing can be added to the stock tune. With the tune he will be able to see more than just 12 rwhp which converted to flywheel horsepower is even more of course. The intake also gave me 15 flywheel horsepower too. Add all that up and you will come to be around 300 horsepower at the crank. Factoring in my 1/4 mile times with the X when it was stock as compared to when it was tuned and those figures are VERY close. BTW, I am not going off of dealer ratings of what those mods should make for power. I am going off of my personal experience. On one note, I did have my tuner make a fairly aggressive tune for the truck which would account for more horsepower than the average persons tune in this N/A application. So, I suppose for the average person that doesnt like to chance detonation, 290-295 flywheel horsepower would be a figure to go off of.

So, with around 290 crank hp, I should expect about 250 rwhp?

Around that. There will be other factors that throw variables in there even when dynotuning but yeah you should be around 250rwhp or a smidge less.
