Seafoam, yay or nay?

i've had seafoam done in my explorer, my buddie's cherokee, and my buddy's friends blazer. all has done wonders in peformance (all high mileage engines)

i'm trying to convince my friend to do it to his 5 litre mustang, but he doesn't want to take the risk of cleaning it out, its possible carbon may be holding compression

Completed the Seafoam treatment last night (twice) through the brake booster vacuum line. I am truly impressed, it completely removed severe pre-ignition, so bad it was pinging while cruising at constant speed, and gave it a noticable amount of extra power.

Interestingly, I did not have any smoke or steam during the burn off, but it still worked.

Our pastor gave us the truck a few years ago with 199,000 miles, it has been the energizer bunny that keeps going, now with 218,000 miles. God bless pastor Jeremy and his family.

piston compression rings

I used SeaFoam to loosen the stuck piston compression rings on a Volvo engine I purchased that had not run for more than a year. I pulled the spark plugs and squirted SeaFoam into the cylinders twice a day for several days. I then added a couple squirts of engine oil for lubrication. The treatment significantly increased the compression readings. I then started the engine, let it idle to operating temperature and then replaced the engine oil and filter.

I am on the fence on Seafoam for the same reasons as the OP. However, it may interest some to know that Seafoam now sells Seafoam Spray with a specially bent tube that snakes in the intake in front of the throttle plate. This solves the issue of even distribution.

I live by SEAFOAM. From my 94 X, zeroturn mower, backpack blower, weedwhip, snowblower. I absolutly love it. My X gets a splash in the oil every 6,000 miles right bfor the oil change. (Normaly buy it when i buy the oil. Add it and drive about 25-30 miles then change) The other half of the can can at the oil change get added to my gas. Then at about every 10,000-15,000 i add thru vacume lines. i always add it right befor a weekend vacation up north friday night and start her back up when i get home on a sunday. I love this stuff.

I just did the seafoam 2 days ago on 165k truck. Wow, it was instantly noticeable! Good stuff!

Where on the brake booster is the vacuum line? Anyone got pics?

Seafoam now has a spray with an injection tube, much better distribution... I got mine at Orielly.

I just bought the spray a couple days ago from O'reilly as well and did a treatment. Given the amount of smoke from the exhaust afterwards I would say it needed it. I think it made a difference in how smooth it runs now....:)

Ok, I did this in my 94, and it didn't smoke did I not do it right? I followed the directions..

The smoke means that carbon is being burned up. If it smokes a lot, then your engine was really gummed up. If it doesn't smoke a lot, like yours, then your engine was pretty clean to begin with.
