i have a 98 sport, here is my problem. the drivers side shoulder belt dose not like retracting most of the time. its getting real frustrating cause, sometimes you get in or out, and part of the belt is hanging outside the door for it to get splattered with anything that comes your way. is there a fix for this, or am i going to have to get a new belt???

I call this the Explorer disease, although I used to have a Toyota truck with the same problem. They didn't make the return spring on the retractor strong enough IMO.

Others have complained about this in the past. It is a PITA.

I've never seen a good solution for it posted. At one time, I was tempted to rig up some sort of bungie cord to try to keep it from falling out the door, but I never got around to it. Ive just learned to live with it.

very very common problem.

I have yet to meet a solution that works and maintains the safely integrity of the seat belt.

So, yeah, suck it up and deal with it.

well.... i can at least sleep better now knowing that i am not the only person that has to swear every time they get in or out. i guess a ranger belt is different as well?

I had an 89 Ranger and I don't recall having the same problem with that truck. The seat belt was very basic - there was no height adjustment for the shoulder belt like there is on the Explorer.

figured they wouldn't be the same. oh well, but it is driving me nuts, seeings how it is winter and you have all the slop on the roads. as i said, and monmix reminded me to suck it up and deal with it! :)
