I have an '04 XLT, I've owned it since march of this year. I have discovered that it WILL NOT START if I unlock the doors with anything other than the remote. If I use a key or the keypad to unlock it, it won't start and I have to press a button on the remote before it will.

Is this supposed to be a security feature???

I think this is the stupidiest idea ever... what happens when the battery in the remote dies? I wouldn't even be able to get to the store to get a new battery!!

Is there any way to turn this "feature" off?

I used to work in the mobile electronics field (Radios, alarms, starters, etc.) Try this:
unlock the door with the remote.
get in and close the door
start the truck and let it run for a few minutes.
turn the truck off
open the door, lock it with the button on the door (not the remote)
get out and close the door
unlock the door with the key
get in and try to start it

If it starts, youre right about the "security feature" if not you may have another problem.

sorry if i got a little too "in depth" with the instructions, but you wouldnt believe the things i saw on a daily basis.

good luck!

Wow, you're right!
If I lock it without the remote, then I can unlock it without the remote and still start it. I could still get stuck unable to start it if I did lock it with the remote and the battery fails...

the only way I know to get around it is to install an aftermarket unit that will lock/unlock the doors..
