yea i really want to tint my windows, but dont have the money right now, so i was just wondering how hard it would be to tint my own windows?? anybody ever try this on their explorer, iv got a 1999 xlt. also, does anyone know what the percentage equivalent is to the factory "glazed" tint on the back windows? any tips, good stories, horror stories, on tinting on ur own would be greatly appreciated, thanx.

On the 95-97 X's, the tint is 17%. If all you want to get tinted is the front 2 windows, your better off having it professionally because it will look better (since you have never tinted before) and you will get a warranty. It costs me $50 to get my front 2 tinted. They match great. By the time you buy your tint and tools needed to install the tint your looking at atleast $25. Just cough up the extra 25 bucks for a professional job. If you can afford a 99 XLT, and the gas that goes in it, you can definately afford the $50 bucks.. ya know. Good luck man:)

Yea, definitely go professional when it comes to tinting. I've seen my tint guy at work and there is more to it than what they give instructions for. Like what Matt said, by the time you get it right you've spent the $50. Save yourself the headache and the cursing.

good point, i didnt kno it was that cheap, i think i might just do that and get it professionally done. it all depends bcs i kinda wanted to get my back windows done a lil darker too so that ppl couldnt see my stereo stuff. gotta have a lil protection ya kno, 50 bucks aint bad tho, if i just get the front and make it the same all the way around

If you already have the factory tint in the back, a light tint would put you in the limo tint shade area. I've done all light tint on all windows and you can not see inside unless you put your face right next to the glass. But now to match the front to the rear you need to put medium tint up front while the rest are just light tint.

most states have no restrictions on the rear part. you can go limo dark if u want, front in NC is 35% and in NY is 20% good luck. but i would go pro too.

Just do it yourself like I did! lol...and I'm a girl....I even put green ghost flames in with the nautical star cut out! It's not even that hard! I put 20% on the front two and it doesnt even come close to matching the other windows (stock window fog), so I'm just going to black it all out....the back should be the easiest part cuz you can actually mess up and not be able to tell!

Just my opinion!

yea well in illinois its illegal to have ANY tint on the front, but i think il just put in like a 35 or 20, shouldnt be overly noticeable like limo would, and i think il be ok, iv got friends that had cops just kinda say take it off, or just gave em a warning, or just didnt care altogether. so yea, il probly go 20 all the way around, darkening the back to limo, and the front 2 at 20.

any tips if i decide to do it myself?? its a 4 dr, so iv gotta deal with 4 of the roll up windows, the stationary windows in the back are easy i kno that, but what about the roll up windows and the rear window bcs of the defroster?? any ideas?

we did my friends monte carlo all day yesterday , never did really figure out the back window, messed up a bunch of times, and didnt get a chance to start the door windows, just got the side stationary ones
