I was just informed that I have to replace my front driver's side radius arm and crossmember(they are both bent). Is there anyone in the Phoenix area who would be able to lend me a hand. I don't know if I have all the tools I would need but I would be willing to drive anywhere. I have had to put about $4000 into my truck in the last 2 months and can't afford to have a shop do the install.

The shop that diagnosed it said I would be OK for city driving but if I off-road any I need to replace it pronto. Well I'm going on a fishing trip on Sept. 1 that requires me to navigate a jeep trail. I was thinking the 19th or 20th of August for the install. If anybody is interested please reply!! Maybe we could work out something where someone else has a project they need help with and I could help them out with theirs in return.

Bump!

Don't get to excited

Hey PhxExplorer-

If I lived closer you to you I would offer my assistance, but seeing as I'm in Minnesota we probably wouldn't be able to hook-up. I just wanted to let you know that we aren't ignoring you. :)

PS Bump! Bump! :bounce:

Hmmm...

I won't have a house in AZ until late September, but if you still have a need for some help after that, let me know. I'm not familiar with your earlier suspension, but I'm willing to give it a go! E-mail me directly after August as I may not have E-mail or computer access for the last two weeks of August probably.
Rick

Well it doesn't look like I'll have this fixed before my fishing trip, but I would like to at least get the crossmember replaced. The only problem is that I have to grind off the rivets holding it to the frame and I don't own a grinder. I had to do this same thing on a 93' ranger that I previously owned and it only took me and another guy about an hour to do. So if there's anyone in the Phoenix area with a little hand grinder that's willing to help me out, I would be greatly appreciative and will bring beer, food, mixed drinks, will even pay you for your time, etc. Let me know if there's anyone interested.

Damn, FREE BEER!!! To bad I don't live closer to you, I'd definitely help out!!! ;)

When we got our explorer the first thing I did was take it to a shop and have them cut off the rivots.. cost us $50.. and he was done in <2 hours... If you can afford it, and you can find a shop (I went to an alignment shop) to do it it is worth the money..

I think I will have time in Early September.. If so I can cruise up to PHX and help you finish the Radius arm.

Give me a call at 602-896-8813 or try my cell 602-402-6717.

I'm sorry it took so long to get to you on this. Somehow I missed this thread before today.

Well some good news, I looked under the truck last night and it looks like someone had previously removed the rivets so that should make the job a hell of a lot easier. I think I should replace the RA bushings while I'm at it. Thanks for the offers guys and Rick I will be giving you a call today to see what we can work out. Once again, thanks.

BTW Rick, hows the Explorer coming along? I haven't heard anything lately.

For info on the Explorer look at the Colorado Run thread. It's one of the last posts. I don't want to go through it again, it's too depressing.

Yeah, just read the post. Sorry to bring out the demons!! Good Luck! and I hope they light the fire under their a#$es. Hey if you do decide to try to finish it on your own I would be more than happy to give you a hand. Let me know!

Thanks, I'm not far from trailering it home. They do need to put the darn gears and axle shafts in it though so it can roll. I'm going over there right now to try and stir that fire a bit.

Here's the latest scoop on my coupe... I told him I need this thing done and that it's taking way to long to finish off the last leg of the project. He apologized and said he had to take his guys off it for the last few days to work on some emergency stuff that came in without appointments.

I can understand that as I have been the "emergency case" with him several times. What I did get out of him was a commitment to have it done and ready to drive next Wednesday. That took a big weight off my chest, I do believe him and barring and unforeseen catastrophes it will be done on time. I even went so far as to make an appointment next Wednesday to have the exhaust finished.

Let me know when you want to work on your rig, I have all the tools we'll need right here. I prefer working at night so if you have any lights that would help.

Hey Rick, that's great news! How does this Saturday or Sunday sound. I'm going to get a couple of those floor lights that you can put under the truck and I think they have halogen bulbs. Any way, it gives me an excuse to finally get them. Is there anything else I need to bring (beer, soda, etc.) Let me know! I appreciate it Rick, your a life saver.

I can help if you need it. I'm not real familiar with what you're doing but would be glad to get my hands dirty. Let me know if you are interested. I live in Gilbert and can get almost any tools we would need (I think?) Let me know ASAP...I have to work Sat. A.M. but could lend a hand any other time. Just e-mail Sq21Lt@aol.com.

Myexploder,
I just happen to live in Gilbert too. Where abouts are you? Im at Lindsay and Elliot. Maybe we can get together sometime for a short trip. Not sure about that as you seem to be very highly modified and Im still pissin around in the planning stages.

Hey, count me in too when the weather cools a little :) . I live at Ellsworth and Univeristy. I have a permit for Bulldog Canyon and want to head back there once it cools down. It's very convenient since one of the gates is only 5 miles from my house. I wuldn't mind Exploring with people that have vehicles that are a closer match to my Explorer than the people at work I usually go with. They all have Jeeps with 4"-6" lift and 33"-35" tires. My Explore does all right, but it is certainly no match for their Jeeps.

Hi all....I live at Ray between Gilbert and Lindsey. Practically neighbors. Well, I found out that I have to work Sun. A.M. also untill noon, so let me know. A trip would be great. I'm really not as modified as it sounds. I need some clearance more than anything else. Bulldog canyon...I'm not familiar with that area. I used to live at Elsworth and Univ. also. NE corner by the CAP. Let me know about working on your Explorer....and keep me informed of any small trips that we could do around here. I look forward to hearing from you guys....

MyExploder, Rick wants to wait until monday night to help me with the crossmember. But I'm thinking I might want to do the radius arm next weekend, preferably sun. Are you free on that day? I'm like you, not a lot of experience with suspension stuff, but what better way to get experience.HeHe! Let me know.

I live in the same area (sort of). I live 2 streets north of Adobe, off El Paso. The neighborhood was started 2 1/2 years ago, before then it was just desert. Now it is full. Anyways, Bulldog Canyon has 3 gates to go in. One gate is just this side of the Blue Point Bridge at the river, the other gate is about 4 miles south of the stopsign at Usery Pass and Bush Highway, and the 3rd gate is in Apache Junction, just off McKelleps. The trail through Bulldog Canyon runs from gate 1 to 3. Gate 2 joins up with the other trail about the middle. The main trail runs right at the base of the SuperStition Mountain with the big white stipe. I have driven it once from gate 2 to gate 1. I drug the bottom once when going down a ledge. Once i met up with the main trail, it was pretty mild. I have been told that the trail is much more challenging when heading towards Apache Junction though so I'm not willing to go it alone. You can get a permit for free by going to the Arizona Parks office in downtown Mesa and filling out a form. You will get a permit with the gate combinations for the next six months. They change the code every month. They use the permit to cut down on traffic. It is heavy fines for driving out there without a permit, but a permit is free and has to be carried with every vehicle. It's a neat, close place to go, but when it is 100+ outside, it is not the place to break down or get stuck.
