No one has asked so I will. Is the alternator refurbished or new? I know autozone/advance sometimes have both. I always get the refurbished ones and never have a problem.

It was a new one. I'm going to advance auto tomorrow and picking up a refub and hopefully that will solve things

Maybe you need more amps?

ita a 130 amp to begin with...anything more and i'd be getting into custom territory. i dont have any special equipment that would warrant that. it happens when i just have the headlights or fan on with my head unit (a plain alpine, no subs or anything)

well, it turns out that the new alternator i got from autozone was also a piece of crap. I got a rebuild form advance auto and the rattle went away!!!

VICTORY IS MINE!!!!

Thanks for the help guys :)

Nice Going!!!!

It's too bad you had to go through all that trouble :thumbdwn: Sometimes the parts stores sell crap :thumbdwn: You can't even yell at the person behind the counter because most of the time they know nothing about mechanical work only know how to look up parts numbers :thumbdwn: I'm glad to hear you were able to solve your problem

Amazing that you got two bad alternators. Hey Lt. Jim, don't blame the parts store guys. They're not the ones rebuilding the alternators that don't always work right. You're buying a rebuilt product and once in a while there's going to be a problem with them. As long as they stand behind their product and replace it under warranty, the parts store is doing fine by me.
