Hi Folks, first post here!

Looks like I will be ordering a new Explorer Limited very soon. I have an option of ordering it thru Costco for best price but that dealer is 50 miles away. I have a local dealer 3 miles away I would rather do business with.

Do you feel you should buy your vehicle where you have it serviced? Does it make a difference, not sure how they are paid for warranty work etc.

I now drive a 2004 4Runner Limited and time to trade it in. This will be the first new Ford I have purchased since the 72 Red Mustang Mach 1 that I bought a LONG time ago! Looking forward to buying American again! :D

Thanks for your insights!!

George

George, I don't think it's necessary. Buy from the dealership that gives you the best value. Do your service from the dealership that gives you the best service for the price.

The two don't need to be associated to be the best for you.

From a service/maintenance requirement, our Explorers require little scheduled maintenance.

Thx Bill!

I never bought from a dealer out of my area before so really was not sure. Lets say the Touch screen breaks a month after I get the new vehicle. Do I have to return to where I bought it or can I just go local?

Probably a dumb question (local will be fine) but before I make the commitment I want to ask all the dumb questions! ;)

Thanks again!!

Your warranty is honored by any authorized Ford dealership, regardless.

I have bought several cars out of state, and serviced locally. The opposite has also been true. In fact, I am picking up my new Limited on Wednesday in northern Wisconsin. I live in the Chicago area. I will have it serviced in both areas. If I need warranty work, I'll go to a convenient location at that time.

Welcome to the forum, George! :wavey:

If it's a warranty issue, any dealer has the responsibility to take care of it, no matter where you happen to be a thte time it needs replacement.

When it comes to what dealer to use, conveniences like loaners, and general attention does come into play with what dealer you choose.

I wouldn't deny that a dealer that you purchased a vehicle from will treat you a smidge better then one you didn't, that's just human nature. Should they? No. But, I know that with business tough these days, any dealer that you place the trust in will usually meet you half way. If you buy a car at dealer A, and call dealer B to have something fixed at 4:45pm, and you've been a customer of dealer B for a long time, they will have a WTF moment when they look up and see that you purchased your vehicle from dealer A- that's undeniable...

I would take the deal from Costco to your local dealer. In fact- do you know anyone that works for Ford? If you can get a PIN, I don't think the deal is any better anyway.

What is the Costco price?

Joe,

Thanks for the welcome and info above!!

Did not get the Costco price yet, actually I had started this past January but so much snow and bad weather here I decided to not pursue it. I plan on actually starting the process today! :)

I do intend to let them know locally I plan on getting a price from Costco and to give me their best price.

Don't know anyone in Ford at all....planning on a Silver limited 4WD with at least the 302A package.

George
