My 03 Ford Explorer XLT was flashing service engine soon because I wasn't changing my oil frequent enough. When I went to about 5,000 miles it would flash and when I changed the oil it would go away. Make sure you are doing regular 3,000 mile intervals if you are using regular oil. Check your oil with the dipstick and see how dirty it looks. But be consistent with oil changes.
