SES and oil change?

Have been explorer owner for 2 weeks and the "Service Engine Soon" light is on. Does it turns on when its time to change oil? Just that the light is on and its time to change oil as well. So now i dont know is the light on because of the need of new oil or is it something else wrong?

My 04 didn't have that - but the message center kept alerting me when the oil life was below 10%.

Just to be safe, I'd get the code checked out just in case it's something serious.
