I have a problem. I can't stand how low my rear shackles hang down.

This is the picture I could find right now that show it. (pay no attention that about to land on my head :p ) I'm affraid I'm gonna tare them up on rocks or some will rear end me on the street and take out my springs!

what can I do? I don't understand how a AAL will work on a SUA.

An aal on an SUA mounted axle works the exact same way as a aal on a SOA mounted axle. It adds extra arch to the leaf pack which pushes (or pulls i guess) the axle farther away from the frame, lifting it. It installs under the main leaf where the axle butts up to it so it doesn't lower the truck any. I'm not sure if i'm making sence...just got out of a final. did i help?

later
CP :D

well if the shackles are to low, u could always just go UP, tires, more susp.lift or SOA, other then that, i've seen someone, (sorry can't remember who) put training wheels on them, looks pretty sweet actually, lol

Yes that makes sence...Thanks...i guess thats what I need is more arc! Then go back to factory shackles or shorter ones.

get lifted springs and go with stock sized shackels.... basically to get the same amount of lift, you are going to need those shcakels... there really isnt a simple way to do it.... keep in mind, that shackles are very strong..... you can actually jack up the truck from one...... so sliding on it or whatever, well, if you are wheeling enough to bust a shackle, other things on your truck are busted too

What!!! Are you serious? ...........I mean I guess it would work sort of? maybe roller blade wheels. I thought about doing that for sliders ..but I think you would lose control in some situations.

Jefe or Maniak had the shackle wheels. They worked really well. Just got the wheels and longer lower bolts ;)

The shackles (especially warriors) are one of the strongest parts on your truck. Don't worry too much about dragging them, unless you think they'll get you stuck.

It wasn't Jefe! I would have heard about that one! My shackles are home made, ...but yes there very strong. There at least 1/4" with slight angle on the sides. So they look just like this " ] "

Dude, you are about to slide sideways down that ditch! I would be worrying about putting traning wheels on more than my shackles, unless you want to be part of the rollover posse! :D

Well, now that you've got my attention. . . No, thats not me with those silly 'training wheels'. I'd rather drag my shackle off a rock than loose another 1" of clearance so that I could roll off it.
I have drug my shackles through everything including putting nearly all the weight of the vehicle on them as a come off a ledge, so I know the warriors hold up just fine.
If you want to get rid of the shackles, then grab some 2" lift springs (OME or other) and run the stock shackle. I wouldn't recommend an AAL of any sort as it will stiffen up the ride, possibly limit flex, and eventually sag with age. If you do go with an AAL go with a FULL length one or you'll end up with inverted W springs (patent pending ;) )

OR, I'll loan you my custom set of inverted W springs, and you can go SOA and have the perfect 2" lift :p

Yeah, I told him not to go up that. :nono: (ok, so I didn't. But I did tell him there was no way I was gonna try it. )

Alec...

I think you are talking about me..

here is a closeup pic of one of those wheels (when they were still new).. I've used them many times, and they work well. The shackles don't hang up on the rocks, They just roll off. Here are a couple pics of it...

I have early War-153 shackles, with the 13mm bolt hole. So I use wheels with a 1/2" shaft. Newer War-153 shackles have the 14mm bolt hold which means you have to find a wheel with the right size axle hole.
