Hi Guys.
The story so far;
I've made a pair of shackles as per the drawing.
They are very strong compared to the originals. I know they will fit on the chassis and they fit on the leaf spring.
My lefthand shackle came off very easy. Unfortunately the righthand bolt is seized inside the right leaf spring. Therefore I cannot give you the ride height difference with the new shackles, because I can't fit them both to my Ex.
They will cost £40 a pair plus about £10 postage. [ they weigh 3kg each]
You will need 4 bolts that are 14mm X 120mm long because of the extra thickness of the side plates. My local 'Bolt' man quoted them at £1.50 each including a nyloc nut. I can supply these if it makes it easier for you.
I'm annoyed that I can't give you the results with them fitted because I've spent quite a number of hours [ and £'s ] sourcing materials and taking my Ex to bits to make sure they fit.
I will paint them black or leave them primed as required.
Any questions, just ask away.
Kev.

p.s. I'm not out to make a huge profit. The price covers the materials, welding gas, electric etc. I don't work, and it gives me something to do.

Ok mate- perfect, please can you put me down for the whole deal, pair of shackles, all the bolts and nuts as required..in black please.
Just one thing- how do we pay you?
you can pm me bank details to pay cash into or maybe paypal or however you like.

I can pm you back my address for postage.
I am gonna go and start spraying wd 40 around like you wont believe in the hope that I dont have the same issues as you!
Once again--thank you so much for doing this for me and us!
H

Thanks H.
I will go and order some bolts tomorrow because they are 'ex-stock'.
'Bolt' man says usually 4 or 5 days but could be just 24hrs.
I will sandblast them tomorrow and get them painted.
I will let you know the final price when I've had them weighed at the post office. I'll only charge you for the postage they want.
A cheque in the post is fine by me.
I'll PM you when I send them and you send the cheque likewise. I think I can trust you for the cheque not to bounce mate. lol.
Cheers Kev.

thanks kevin,if its ok with you can i have a set as well and a set of bolts also thankyou,pm me with address to send cheque and ill post whenever you want .thanks richard

Ok Rich, thanks very much.
Kev.

just a quick question about the bolts , do you need strenghtened bolts due to movement and weight ?

Hi Rich,
I told the 'bolt' man what they were for and he said they would be high tensile steel, suitable for the job.
Kev.

thanks kevin thats good to know, thanks for all your effort on this project, cheers richard

Can i have a price for everything including bolts.....also can i pay via paypal as i dont have a cheque book

just a quick question, I'm not trying to pee on anyone's bonfire etc...

However, What sort of warranty/insurance etc do you have in the event of product failure?

I'm not saying that they're cheap or under-engineered or anything, but, just saying, the part fails, and damage ensues, what policy do you have with regards to covering the damage?

I'm still interested in a set though...

Si

Hi Si,
Listen mate, I've made these parts because people have asked for them to be made. Obviously, because I'm not a company, I cant guarantee anything. I've copied a design that other people have been using.
I would have no hesitation in fitting these to my own Ex as they are basicly 2 heavy steel bars with a brace inbetween.
I took one of my shackles off and i couldn't believe how flimsy [ and corroded ] it was.
I also understand that raising any vehicle alters its centre of gravity which can make it more unstable. These shackles will raise the rear about 2 inches. Thats not a large ammount but has to be taken into consideration if you fit them.
Like I said, I have not marketed these, I have made them at peoples request.
Why not wait and see what 'H' and 'Rich' have to say about them.
They certainly are not as 'extreme' as ones you have been looking at.

Like I said, I am not trying to pee on your bonfire, at all... not one bit, I was merely raising the question.

If you're confident to run em on yours then I'm behind you 100% and will more than likely order a set when I get home.

that was all

Si

Well I will give em a go and believe thay will do a great job- because I had taken my shackles off before just after I bought this one- when I was undersealing the car......The Stock ones are I have to say bloody flimsy and mine are well not in the best of nick probably due to the age of them and the amount of corrosion. I believe they are pressed steel and are defo way thinner than the skackles in every way that have been made by Kevin P.
I will wack em on and do some curb climbing and maybe some dirt redistrubting- I dont have any fears as the plans spec is way over engineered on original.

Thanks Kev for you efforts with this project.
When Si comes out of quarantine -I am sure he will ask you for a set, by then I will have had his tyres on mine for weeks and on your shackles!!!

im 100% happy, the shackles and design have been tried and tested in the states for some time know with no adverse effects and are seen to be much stronger than stock .obviously ill check the welding etc of the shackles as a matter of course as anybody would with anything they fit .i fully understand that im fitting these at my own risk with no warranty given or implied on anyones part.cant wait to fit them ?cheers richard

kev,pm sent just got message blacks fine ill sort it out later i might even leave it as it is thanks again richard

pm sent kev

whilst waiting for shackles ive raise the front but due to passenger side torsion adjuster bolt being shorter than the other its maxed out so i got an inch out of it.with the bigger tyres measured from the floor to the bottom of plastic trim ive measured 3foot .ill fit the shackles and see how it looks when they arrive but if i can get a longer bolt ill get 37" from floor to under plastic trim which ill be happy with.ill post some pics when complete
