Shift indicator

My father-in-law just bought a 2000 XLT. Its like the 6th Explorer he's had so he is familiar with them. He told me when he manulally shifts into low 2 or low 1 it seams the same. I didn't drive it but is their any inherient problems with the shift indicators on the newer models?

He has a loose valve body in the transmission. Common problem. Search for No Engine Braking in Low for more info. Thread may be in the Useful Threads forum I think.
