shift performance solenoid bad how to change??

i have a 97 explorer i was told my shift performance solenoid is bad

what are the signs of it being bad and

do i have to drop the pan to change it?? :roll:

Welcome to this forum! You have to drop the pan to replace the solenoid, but you don't have to drop the valve body like the older A4LD. Check the resistance of the coil to see which one is bad. Did you get the codes? It will tell you which one is bad.

yeah he gave me the code but i forgot it oops i will have to go back tomorrow and get them to tell me again.


is it the same thing as the GP Sorensen Transmission Module ??
because thats what he pulled up on the computer to show me but he told me it was the shift performance solenoid
