Hey guys I wanted to see if anyone had the same problem we have with our explorer. Not really a problem but a feature request! I like the tap up tap down feature on the explorer except I sometimes hit the tap down button while turning. This feature is active even when the shifter is in the "D" (drive position). So when driving or turning I sometimes accidentally hit the button and annoyingly is goes down a gear then eventually times out and goes back to normal. I have figured out a way to disable it while only in the "D" position.

Would anyone else want this disabled in the Explorer or a Taurus SHO? Thoughts?

My other gripe (SHO guys shouldn't have this problem) is the explorer auto shifts when in manual mode. I also can change this if someone wants.

I know this might be a waste of a post for some but its a few things that I really wanted changed and did to our vehicle here so I want to offer to anyone else that might want.

Sounds like a good feature to have, especially the not shifting in manual mode...

Can the opposite be done to a vehicle without the paddles? Without having the paddles, we have the shift button on the shift lever & it does NOT allow "temporary" shifting while in 'D'.

Also, would you have an insight if or how the Paddle shifter can be added to a non equipped vehicle? I know a steering wheel is needed & that the clockspring is the same.

In my Fusion, the paddle shifters allowing me to shift while in drive is a big plus. I have never accidentally hit the paddleshifters. I think being more careful would be better than this feature being removed.

At the present I don't think so. You would need to wire some sort of switch in. It also not in the logic right now so it would be a bit of a challenge

I appreciate the being more careful but I'm 6'3 and the position of the paddle in relation of my leg/hand  while turning has caused me to hit it several times.

I'm only offering it if someone wants it. Kind of a user preference. The 2010-2012 SHO had this feature off for this exact reason.

You mean for installing the paddles or for enabling the manual shift in Drive?

I don't mind being able to tap the paddles for a quick pass (never tapped it accidentally), but would like to be able to hold a particular gear when in manual mode. Is this something that is only possible with a tune, or can it be done thru Ford's software?

I have also accidentally hit this lever while driving. Sounds like a good idea. Only question is how much HP does this add? ;)

I've never accidentally hit the shift paddles so I've never experienced any downside with them, except that they are attached to the steering wheel instead of a fixed position on the steering column.

This is my first full automatic and I would love to have the auto shift removed in M, or at least move the shift point to a much higher rpm.

My 2013 Explorer Sport will shift in manual mode by itself and yet my 2014 2.0 ecoboost Fusion will hold the gear in manual mode. It just bounces off the rev limiter like it is supposed to. :)

I have never accidentally hit the paddle when turning. I rarely use the paddles though. The transmission is pretty smart in both of my Ford's and is usually in the correct gear, unlike my 2011 Grand Cherokee. That transmission is full retard.

Yes then just finding the correct wiring might be a challenge as well

It can only be done with a tune and its not something that is adjustable we are actually changing how it operates

Send an email in to info@livernoismotorsports.com an give us your serial number and a brief description and we will get it done.

It does not add any horsepower sorry :(

Ok. What about just adding the tap shift feature while in 'D' for vehicles that don't have it?

To my knowledge we have never added the paddle or tap shift features to a vehicle that did not come factory this way.

I've been driving with the 'no up-shift' tune for two weeks and I think it's time to give you some feedback.

My first reaction was that it was so much fun to drive in M-mode. This is the sport mode that my Explorer Sport didn't have! The truck feels so much quicker when shifting manually, but might just be that I'm more active. Still, the driving experience is so much more... "sport".

Just to be able to hold a gear makes is so much easier to drive in general. In D-mode (same for regular M) my car always end up in a higher gear than I prefer. Thereby loosing the ability to follow the flow on the busy freeway by a slight touch on the gas, or release it to brake with the engine. I found the 'no up-shift' tune perfect for this.

It still occasionally down shifts automatically, if I'm not quick enough, but that hasn't bothered me. When stoping at a red light. I can down shift manually to brake with the engine and the car only automatically downshifts to first gear when I'm completely still, that is If I'm not quick enough myself. I've never had it downshift when driving.

This is my first car with automatic transmission so I'm used to listen to the engine and sometimes looking at the rpm when to shift, so for me this custom tune is awesome! :D

Thanks for the feedback and glad to hear you enjoy the new tune!

Guys,

Doing some further calibration changes on our Explorer Sport recently, we have also created some further revised tunes that can eliminate the auto down shift as well.

When in stop and go traffic we have noticed they shift from 3rd gear directly to 1st which we disliked. Just another tweak we have done to our tunes that we are glad to offer to our customers free of charge.

This is another example of what makes our true custom tuning superior to the competition and sets us apart from the rest.
