Shocks for front end

Hey there, I have decided to put ranchos 5000s or RSX's under the sport. But I have read that I can't fit them under the front without modifications. What are those modifications? Can you just install them boot side down? I have seen that also, but on the rancho site it isn't recomended. Also does anyone have the part #s that I need for the 2" longer shocks.

sounds like you need to do a torsion twist to lift the front suspension before installing those shocks.

do a search and you'll find all the info you need about doing a torsion twist.

Sorry I guess I needed to be more clear. I already have the TT lift done. Will aftermarket shocks clear the CV boots on the front?

Have you considered Old Man Emu?

Their shocks were designed to go along with a Torsion Twisted Explorer and are made rather well from my understanding.

They are $62 from 4Wheel Parts and if you order them from Nick in Memphis and let him know you are a member of the board, you will get an additional 10% off.

If you order them, you may have to tell him that the priceing list ARB sent out had the wrong price for the front shocks and that it should be around $62 for each.

RSXs

My 95 has RSXs and I recommend against them. They lost their absorbsion (as new) at only 6 months old and one has broken as well in the rear. They were shorter than my stock shocks as well. Rancho"s tech guy said that if they did not travel enough for my truck that I had done something that I should not have done to an Explorer!
Several guys have used other shocks that have worked well for them. Go with those others rather than RSXs.

So Rsx's are out. A Question for you did you get the Rsx's 2" longer than stock? And Did they clear the front CV shafts? Do you think the 5000's would be better... thats if they fit. I am on the highway 60% and on gravel and backroads the rest of the time, what are your thoughts?

RSXs

When I purchased mine, they did not have anything longer than stock so mine were supposed to be stock length.

No clearance problems except in the rear mounting because of a custom bottom mount that I bought from someone here.

I don't have any experience with the 5000s. Maybe someone else can answer that?
