last year i put on monroe sensa tracs and my ride was much less bouncy but it is very stiff
last week i put on 4 dueler at's and my ride sucks! it feels like im in an indy car!
is it possible that the sensa tracs are not designed for a truck an all its unsprung weight? any advice on what to do to achieve a better ride would be appreciated

Steve,

The Dueler ATs, being an All-Terrain tire, will be built much tougher than street tires.
First of all, the Explorer is built on a truck base. So it's a rough ride from day one when compared to a car. Second, the Sensa-Tracs are probably the most comfortable shocks you can get for the Explorer. Rancho and Bilstein are much worse...or better, depending on which you prefer.
The Dueler ATs have a stiffer sidewall compared to ...say...the Michelin Cross-Terrains. AT tires are built that way so that they can withstand rocks slashing away at the sidewall. If you wanted a softer, smoother ride, you should have gone for a street tire like the Cross-Terrains. Check your tire pressure as well. Tire places have been known to boost tires to extremely high pressures after mounting them. Check the tires when they're cold, the gauge should read 30psi, as recommended by Ford.

i have the monroe reflex shocks and they are very confortable. i had firestone at's now i have cooper tires. the ride is still really nice.

i know its a truck but what im saying is the sensa tracs aree worse than stock and the duelers are way worse than the crappystones in terms of ride what did you have before the reflex?
im so stupid i should have gotten the michelin cross terrain!
p.s anyone want to trade?

Check Your Tire Pressure!!

tire pressure

the guy that sold them to me said to run 38 psi (44 is max)
what do you think is best because 38 sucks

i run my tires at 32-33 psi. i think the max is 50.
i'm not sure what shocks were on there before the reflex. i bought the explorer in november and changed the shocks a few weeks later.

What is the max weight (lbs) that the dueler ATs can handle at 50psi. With this info, you can figure out how much weight each tire is actually holding.. and set the air to match. This won't be exact but it will get you close.
