Hi,
I have a 96 EB with 165K miles on it (bought it with around 160K in fabulous shape). My question is this:
It's a little slow to shift into drive or reverse from park. Otherwise, there are absolutely no problems. After hearing the horror stories on the board regarding trannies, I'm concerned that mine's going to drop out the bottom.

Should I be worried?

I assume you checked the ATF level and it was ok?

I would have a complete ATF change done asap. I recommend using synthetic fluid ( I use Mobil 1 ),

Good luck.....

Yup fluid is good, and just replaced about 8 months ago. Is it normal for them to take a second to shift into park and reverse? It's my first EX, so I have nothing to compare to. Is it because there's so much going on under there????

Thanks,

Douglas

A couple of second delay is not abnormal. My '99 has always taken ~2 seconds to shift. If you are talking 5+ seconds, then you may have a problem developing....

Only a second or two. WHEW!!!! I feel better. Can't believe that I've got 165+ on him (his name is Elvis - Magellin was taken) and he's still strong as hell. No leaks or problems. Only issue I have is 12 MPG or so.....

Stuff happens....

You might want to consider adding an aux ATF filter to further prolong your tranny's life.

Real data?

Is there any real data that shows a benefit from an aux filter?

Not that I am aware of. Hoever, it can't help but help by (1) filtering bretter and (2) adding an additional quart of ATF to the system.

Where exactly can you get those?

I got mine from Summit Racing; I think it was about $25.

Good luck....

Again, pardon my ignorance, but my truck has a towing package - does that include a aux filter? I know it has a cooler....

All questions are welcome.

The aux filter is not a standard item with any package, nor is it even available from Ford.

Hank, in this thread Dead Link Removed installed one and got several of us interested in it. I installed one too and love it.

Hope this helps.

I have the box in front of my radiator. How do I know if it is an aux tran cooler or the ac condencer?
Oh and I don't know if anyone knows but if I speed up to 35 or so and take my foot off the gas it runs like cruise control is on....it isn't. What kind of problem could I be looking at? My temp gague goes up to the L on normal as well is this part of it or a seperate concern? Thanks
