Should I buy this ex?

I bought my 2000 XLT off Craigslist for $300. Had 177k miles when I bought it.

Has some minor body damage, nothing a few autozone and junkyard parts wont fix, and it needed a new engine. Picked up an engine for $750.

Ahhh thats been in the back of my head....

But the problem is, id have to find someone else todo that for me....wait my buddy brandon could he swapped engines in his 89(?) F150 a couple times...


What is interchangeable? I mean could the body i buy be like a v6, then i drop a v8 in there?

you can drop a v8 in a v6 body but i wouldnt recommend it. If its a 97 or newer then DEFINETLY dont do it!! They have the 5R55E transmission and they cant even hold behind a v6! They have lots of problems. If it were 97 and below it would be better but still...Be best to find one that has a v8 from the factory because it will have the 4R70W trans and its one hell of a good, tough trans!! So if you want a v8 then get a v8 body and if you have to replace the motor in it rather than replacing the motor in a v6 one....

Thats what I was wondering...I just didnt know if they had 2 different trannies for the v6 and v8, i really want a v8, and im extremely picky this time, if i could go back, i hate to say it, cus i love "her" now lol but i wouldda never bought my 92, for one, i didnt give it a good lookover and the undercarriage is in horrible shape, 2..its OLD, 3, the rust was WAY worse than what he described in the pictures, and CL ad, 3...i was just stupid and said i wanted that one cus it was really the first one i saw...

Long story short, i had my grammas taurus, still in her name, but then she wanted it back, and michigan law, you gotta pay insurance if you have a license even if you dont have a car...so my mom basically said find something really cheap, cus the insurance without a car was CRAZY high, so I talked him down on the explorer from like 1400 down to 850$ lol.

I will DEFINITELY inch by inch examine whatever explorer i buy next haha.
But my gma finally GAVE me the car, its in my name now, but im just selling it, I called a day off work so these 2 guys who were really interested could come look and then buy it, NEVER showed up, i had like 3 explorers i wanted to go look at, but its pointless...without cash

But yeah, I found an engine on CL, dont remember the exact year, i think 96, but it was a v6, with 2K miles on it looked brand new for 650....i hope its still there for a while and a good explorer i want pops up


but thanks alot guys idk what id do without this site, i would have spent so much more money
