I am debating whether or not to purchase a rebuild kit for my BW4404 or just try and find an entire used unit? Here are the symptoms: Upon acceleration there is a fairly loud pop, pop, pop until I ease off of the throttle.. Upon deceleration it pops a little as well and I can hear what I believe to be my chain clinking around a little from time to time.. When I was on a muddy road not too long ago a buddy outside of the vehicle noticed when i accelerated the front tires weren't spinning nearly as fast as they should be and since it was thick mud almost came to a stop as the rear tires continued to dig. In conclusion, I think it is the viscous clutch going out or possibly the chain has stretched?? Should I rebuild it? Any suggestions?? Thanks for your time.

Might be better off rebuilding your transfer case as oppose to used. Cause there another Member here that tried to replace his t-case with a used unit and is having problems with the used one also.

Im debating rebuilding mine also. Some of the kits are confusing on what you get, compared to what you may need. Like on ebay I see rebuild kits with a bunch of parts but no chain, then I always see the chain sold seperately. I know the rear part of my 4404 is bad, I guess I'll open it up and see what else may be damaged.
