97 4.0 SOHC, just replaced all timing components and it runs great, but there is a ticking in the driver side head. it started as a soft noise, but now is very noticeable. I took it to a mechanic and after he had 4 days with it he established it was the timing tensioner on the driverside. He popped off the oil cap and started it up and you can see the tensioner and the guide expanding and contracting very very quick (pretty much in sync with the tick). as I understood the tensioner should remain steady, so I dont think this activity is normal.
What would cause this?
Are there any recommended fixes? I just ordered a new tensioner from ford, but it wont be here until the middle of the week. is there anything i can try before it gets here? Thanks much
