so then if i want to run 35's 5.13s would be the way to go? i was kind of thinking about going with 33's but now im thinking they would look way to small with 6" suspension lift and a 3" body lift.

If you took off the 3" Body Lift it wouldn't look bad.

nah, i dont drive it to often so i want to make it as tall as possible.

so its looking like i need to remove some biggie rivots to get the driver side axel pivot removed. anyone got any good suggestions on how to get them out?

grinder with cut off wheel to cut it flush with beam than a good size punch and minimum of 3 pound hammer 5 would be better...make sure when your hitting it that you're not using your purse and you're actually hitting it lol :D

And an ice cold one after all the hard work

i took the drivers side axle pivot on my Ranger off with a grinder and cutoff disc in about 10 minutes,, just dig in , get it done,,

the work isn't hard, just time consuming,, we usually get that backwards,,

this isn't as hard as people make it out to be,,

so i got the driverside axel pivot off and now im running into problems getting the lowering brakett in. the crossmember has a bit of a curve to it and the bracket doesnt... i got 3 out of the 4 bolts in but i cant get the last one in.

another thing im finding strange is that the ttb seams to be angled forward now. like the top of each side points forward instead of standing upright. i havent put the brop brackets in for the arms so that might fix it but i dunno.

corkey i see you totaly disassembled the front end to do the lift. did you find this easier or if you were to do it again would you follow to instructions and keap most of it together? im wondering cause im finding it hard to even turn a wrench with the whole thing still together, not much room under these things.

and i think i need to go cut down some trees tomorrow and get some 4 foot lengths to rest the truck on. the jack stands its on right now just arnt helping with the lack of room.

Just some info on the gear thing. When you put on a taller tire, the overall gear ratio is effectivly taller. Ie you go faster with less engine revs. So when you go with bigger tires, you need a lower axle ratio to compensate. 4.10's is the lowest you'll find stock. Don't run that with 35's

ya im deffidently going to get some lower gears. but im not going to bother getting new tires untill the spring so its going to wait awhile. do you know if theres another vehicle that come stock with low enough gears for 35's that will work with an explorer? i keap reading that people are using yukon gears? are they saying their using gears from a yukon or a brand of gears called yukon?

no there not using them from a yukon vehicle there is a brand of gears called yukon. i would bet money that you're not gonna find an axle with anything better than 4.10s already in the axle. not mention even if you do find one its not gonna be a bolt, probably more work than setting up gears to begin. your best option that i see is to get 4.88's for front and rear and go with that. i have 4.88's with a 3.0 and i could have a little more low end but im overall happy. if you ever plan to go 37's than i'd go ahead and get 5.13's

Dude. Google is your friend, I'm not sure you should be doing this. Not to be an :mattmoon: but you're asking some questions that you should know. Until you learn a little more DO NOT touch that explorer. You'll only end up ruining something, and potentially hurting yourself. Do you know how to use a spring compressor or even know what it is? Do you know what diff gears look like? How they bolt on? Shim? How a locker works? How a tall vehicle effects your handling? What camber, caster, toe is and how it effects your handling?

LOL srry bud. i've been working on snowmobiles and atvs for years and years and im very mechanicaly enclined. this is my first project thats a vehicle but when 1st gen explorers are a dime a dozen and can be found at any used car lot/ craigslist in good running order for less then 1g why would i be worried about wrecking some parts. and yes i know what a spring compressor is. i know what diff gears look like i know how a locker works and how a tall vehicle effects handling. my suggestion to you is to maybe be a little more helpfull and a little less negative when it comes to newbies. im sure you started out not knowing much but enough to start working on a vehicle too.

You're a bit harsh aren't you? I think so.... I mean the whole purpose of this forum is to ask questions and learn. And if ya break something along the way you know not to do it that way next time.

I have no idea how to do what he's doing, but then again I don't have a 4wd truck either.... but even if I did and had questions no matter how "ridiculous" they may seem, I dad gum sure wouldn't want some smart aleck answer given back pretty much insulting my intelligence. (No you didn't insult me, nor was it directed at me, I simply looked at it from the OP's position for a bit)

Out of all those questions you fired back with yes I know how they all function.

The point of this rant is before you fly off at the mouth with something, maybe you should think back to whenever you installed your first lift like the OP is doing now. I bet you had some questions and some were probably stupid to someone else.

why the N sticker? "The novice stage of the graduated licensing program (GLP) includes various restrictions such as alerting other drivers by displaying an N sign. There is an option to reduce your N stage by 6 months with an ICBC-approved driver education course." you had the Green "N".
