I hope this is the correct forum. I have recent problem. The vehicle is a 91 Ranger, 2.3 L engine, manual transmission. It has a mass air flow sensor. The tach started fluctuating and then more or less died. At the same time, the check engine light came on and stays on. On four occasions, the tach has started working and the check engine light has gone off after bumpy stretches of road. The engine runs rough when cold, but runs pretty smoothly when at operating temperature. Gas mileage has dropped slightly.
I took it into the auto tech program at the community college where I teach. They pulled codes and got a variety. The instructors are GM guys and weren't really comfortable with the situation. They thought it might be the computer.
With the revival on occasion, I feel like it might be a loose connection. Could anyone give me a starting point? Thanks!
