I have noticed on my new to me 2000 exp sohc 4.0 180,000 miles that when it gets nasty temperature wise that on cold (overnight under 30 degrees F) startups it makes a brief timing chain noise for maybe a second or so when it does it's starting rpm flare thing. I'm assuming the noise is while the tensioner gets pumped up with oil? My question is it possible to easily rig a switch to kill the spark or fuel briefly so the engine can crank for a few seconds before it fires off so it can build oil pressure and not rev to 2000 rpms on a dry start?
