I'm still trying to find the cause of the thumping at take off on my 99 Mountaineer 5.0, auto, 2wd.

I am certain the issue is in the drivetrain. I've looked many times and can't find anything loose. None of the bushings look bad enough to cause this. The thump can be felt from the rear.

I was doing some reading and saw some had to grease the slip yoke. They were greasing the yoke under a boot. I don't have the half shaft though, but I'm wondering if it could still be something similar. Can either end of my drive shaft be lubed to stop the thumping? The thump and noise I'm hearing is exactly the same as some on here have described.

I did notice there is a little fluid leaking from the rear differential seal and where the drive shaft slips into the transmission. I don't think the leak from the differential is too bad, but the transmission seal could use some attention I think.

I was going to have the u-joints replaced, but I am not convinced that is the problem. It never does it when shifting into gear and doesn't always do it when taking off. It shifts fine. There is no vibrations. The random thump taking off is the only symptom that something is wrong.
