When I accelerate firmly from stop "something" is slipping. I accelerate, hear a grinding noise for a second and evrything engages and off we go. If I accelerate slowly this does not happen. The car is driving fine - only when you accelerate hard. Is this the gearbox, transmission or clutch? - or something else. Appreciate the help in advance. Thanks.

Matt.

In order for anyone to help you more info is need about your truck. 5speed, auto, 4.0, 5.0 4wd, 2wd, etc...

I can't really help you on your question, but with the information given, I don't know that you will get many replies.

Welcome to the site!

It's a 5 speed, Auto, 2WD. Thanks.

Matt.

he said it's an auto, there's no clutch or reservoir, how many miles are on the truck? Could be a torque converter

There is 160k on the truck - thanks all for the help so far.

Matt.

I'm sorry. I saw 5 speed, and immediately thought of the manual transmission. It's a 5R55E. With 160k miles, I would say that the EPC solenoid is on its way out. The grinding noise could be related to the torque converter, transfer case, or front pump gears. Did you drop the pan, and see if there are any metal shavings in there?

Pan

Haven't dropped the pan - this will be a job for a garage here in LA - as long as I can find one that won't go to town and spin me a long tale..............and invoice. Can you suggest a trustworth garage in Los Angeles? Thanks.

Matt.
