97 Mountaineer, 188k. Transmission tends to slip a lot when cold, but once it reaches operating temperature it seems to operate fine; no hard shifts, no slipping in and out of O/D.

What could be the issue?? No CEL or Flashing O/D light.

Meh, I had clutch packs and shift solenoids replaced @ 60K on my 2003 Mounty.

Slips when? From a stand-still, in "D"? How about cold from stand-still in other gears?

I would suspect pressure-control solenoid not moving freely until it warms up, low pressure when cold causing slip. imp
