Whenever I switch to reverse on my column shift, the command takes
a couple seconds to engage.

May not seem like much, but sometimes I'm accelerating when it decides
to shift. I get a nudge of course when that happens.

Was wondering if the shift mechanism is partially electronic and it needs
some timing adjustment?

I'm just concerned about tranny band damage. I can of course just wait a second , but sometimes I forget.

usually a delay in shifting is something wrong with the internal oil pressure/soleinod valve

I have the exact same issue with my 2004. What does this mean in terms of $$$?

You should check with your ford dealership.I had seen a tsb on this problem.
