I wanted to ask you guys to make sure that the dealer isn't BSing me.

I have a 2001 Eddie Bauer Explorer....so it has the V8....

I noticed when I was under the car that I saw some oil (VERY little) dripping off the bell housing around the tranny. I took it to the dealer (since it's under warranty). They told me that's a common thing (problem?) with the V8 explorers. They say it's a tiny bit of oil that comes off the manifold and leaks down. They say it's nothing to be concerned about.

Is this true? Or should I have them rip it apart to find the problem? The car almost has 30k miles on it.

They are full of crap. They seem not to want to do the required warranty repair.

Insist on the repair of the leak.

I agree w/Al on this one.
I had the same thing happen on my POS-10. Since day one, there was about a dime size drip of oil on the garage floor every morning. At about 2k miles, iwas having some warranty/recall service done and told them about this. They gave me a free rental, and when I got to work they called and said it would not be ready today, come tommorrow. I asked why? they had to replace the rear seal to fix the leak, no BS, just did it !
I have had more problems with my truck (The C#@^y POS-10) than I care to remember, but this dealer has always been straight and responsive.
Your dealer just doesn't want to replace the rear seal, which on your V8, I suspect is the problem.

Thanks for replying. So you think it might be the rear main seal? I can see that being a days worth of work to fix. It appears that it's only leak a drop or two a week. I'll have to take another look at it. I think it's in my best interest to take it to another dealer :)
