LOL, Hey Kyle. What happened to you buying a double cab Unimog?Bigmellon said:Hey John - Good job with the front diff.
Danas?? What happened to the Mog axles you were gonna swap in there???
How hard was it to pull out the front axle? And don't say easy as picking up the pieces!!
It's not as difficult as you might think. Just time consuming.
Here's is the generalized procedure.
*** Disclaimer This is a generalized procedure not containing specific details of the actual activities.
- loosen axle nut
- remove wheel/tire
- remove brake caliper and pads
- unclip ABS sensor wires.
- disconnect upper A-arm from spindle
- remove axle nut
- remove CV axle
** Do the above on both sides
- disconnect driveshaft
- disconnect breather tube
- remove 3 bolts holding axle in. ***make sure it doesn't drop on your head
That's the basics.
Remember if you want to drive around without the axle in the truck you have to have the outer part of the CV joint in the hub with the axle nut tightened down. Otherwise the wheelbearing in the hub will come apart and your wheel will fall off tearing up other stuff as it comes off the vehicle.
