smoking normal?

Is it normal for your brakes to start smoking after very heavy braking? I just put new brakes on and I went out to test them so I went 60-0 a few times by slamming on the pedal. i then got out and noticed a smell like burning and my brake pad was smoking between the pad and rotor. is this normal under heavy load? or should i recheck my work? (the calipers ARENT sticking because I JUST replaced them last week)

with new pads it is common....


actaully, most new brake parts mostly rotors are machined.. and still have maching oil on them... this is probably where the smoke is coming from

Well when I take my X the the mountains, they start to smoke and smell on the way down from the heavy braking. It usually is just my wheel bearing grease and I just repack them.
