Smoking the Tires

imo though theres nothing dumber than when people spin their tires in wimpy vehicles just 'cause they have no traction and they want to look cool in front of their friends. as a general rule-keep the tire spinning for racing and muddin'

Ya go that right! There's nothing more graceful than pulling away from someone at a stop light without a chirp.

in regards to your question: it can put excessive wear on a lot of things. Explorers dont have the best brakes to begin with, and brake torquing certainly won't help the problem. So you can expect you see some accelerated wear on your brakes.

With enough horsepower, you can also do some damage to your driveshaft, and rear end.

My personal favorite though (because its just tempting fate) is the transmission. Power braking is terrible on teh tranny, I saw a friend go through a honda tranny in 22k miles from BTing and nuetral drops.

I say stick to a muscle/sports car if you want to do burnouts, our trucks werent made for that.

I can spin my tires with no problem. If i go up a slight hill i can just smoke then for as long as i want. I have also burnt out through 2 gears oh yeah and i can chirp the tires when i hit 2nd.... on wait i have a manual transmission. :) btw reverse burnouts are bad i blew my reverse gears doing that. It cost me 425 bucks to get fixed and i took the tranny out and put it back in myself.

all i got to say is that i feel sorry for the people that cannot squeal their tires. most of the time mine will break loose even when not going around a corner or when trying to do so. i suppose that is the benefit of a 5.0. i have a pretty damn good trail left on my parking lot at my apartment where i got mad at my room mate and pulled out with damn near all my might ,,...till i saw that turn off coming up suddenly. oh and about the power braking thing dont do it unless you feel like replacing alot of parts or just dont care about your x whatsoever. i used to do that with my first vehicle a chevy blazer and am glad i got it out of my system. now all i got to worry about is when i get a little overexcited when a dude in a big truck pulls up to me and wants a piece. well till next time keep em squealin.

smoking tires = wearing out tires

I'd smoke them all day, if someone else was buying the replacements (and rear brake pads)!

as a tire builder here @ Cooper Tire, all i can say is i LOVE it when people do burnouts! everyone here, go out right now and light 'em up! i will thank you all next friday when i get paid...:D

i want to know how the guy with the 2000 5.0 spins his tires so easily. i thought all of the newer trucks had the awd like mine even if they had a manual transfer case as well. wouldn't that mean that he is always in all wheel just like me? what does he have done to his engine? i'm jealous, 'cause it takes some doin' to get mine to really break loose and i've been spendin' all my money on 'er too. oh well...

if it spins that easy it aint AWD. no way. remember those chevy typhoon/cyclone's? AWD an like 270 hp. had a REALLY fast 0-60 and it just chirped all 4 tires @ WOT. i know, cuz i test drove one.:D

yeah, i bet our trucks won't even really spin them when we get the chargers on there. am i wrong that all newer 4 by x's are awd when they are not in 4 by

Yeah your right...unless he bought a 2WD.

if i can get a pic of me doing a brakestand will someone post it for me? my webpage is screwed and i dont have time to fix it. what i do to accomplish this is roll through some water and get the tires wet or should i just say tire because only the right rear spins or even get some bleach and pour it all over the right rear tire and then apply brake firmly and then slam on the gas and then ease off the brake if the tires dont start to spin at first and then watch the smoke bellow out from the wheel well. Just my experiences. Fun stuff but, major dollars when it comes to buying new tires.

sweet. thanks roger. i will get some to you.

You mean major dollars when you have to put in a $2,700 transmission??

i have done this many times and i havent had any problems with my tranny as of yet. but i will soon learn that it is MAJOR DOLLARS to buy tires from ripping them up smoking them the way i do.

what?!?! the only time i can lay a wheel is when: A: its wet or B: im going around a turn. ive got a 4.0 with stock gears

i dont know guys i guess i just have the perfect touch. you know? i am going to buy a whole bottle of bleach and just douse my tire with it and we will see what happens. another story, me and a couple of friends were at best buy just hanging out, me with my explorer and my other friends (brothers) with a 94 JGC 5.2L full time 4WD and the other with a 98 JGC limited 5.9L full time 4WD, and these little imports pull up and want to race and my friend with the 5.2 says lets just have a smoke out and so this dude with this little accord throws his POS in reverse and then while still rolling back puts it into 1st and revs and just slams the clutch and puts out some descent smoke for about 25 or 30 yards and mean while i was looking for something in the back of my car to wet my tire a bit and i couldnt find a dang thing and then i remember i washed my winidows the other day so i grab my glass cleaner and spray it almost all over my tread and then hop into the driver seat and let her rip and i sit there for , oh i'd say about a good 40-45 seconds just letting my tires roast and when i let off i couldnt see anything around me but when the white smoke died down i saw alot of people in the parking lot just staring wondering what the hell was going on. mind you i still had my firestone wilderness tires when this all happened. just thought i would share. i am so bored at work.

I thought only High school kids "powerbraked" (j/k)
People spend thousands just so their performance cars WONT spin & they can get a good launch.
I've lost races in my Vette due to tire spin & it can be a pi##er. My explorer will smoke 'em (if I do it just right that is) I have a Sport Trac with the 4.10 LS and I'm running 35 inch tires---I can powerbrake & smoke the crap outta them (Thats when I had 35 ATs, not the MTs & YES I'm admitting I powerbraked---But it was only once & I wont do it again, I promise)
Wanna know whats really cool though? I saw a GMC Cyclone (syclone?) launch off the line against a Mustang GT (no competition for the GMC by the way) When the light went green the Cyclone just disappeared---- No tire spin (AWD) It was cool to watch.
As for my tire spinning escapade ---I don't have a pic of powerbraking, But heres a pic of my white vette layin' down some stripes for the camera :)
