Snorkel???

Ok so I'm trying to figure out what has worked and what hasn't. I want to learn from other peoples experiences before I dive into throwing a snorkel on my X. I have the 5.0 AWD and was wondering if anybody else with a 5.0 has done this. Everywhere I look I find people have done it with the 4.0. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anybody knows where to get rims at a great price please let me know. I'm trying to find a set for my wife's 06 XLT, preferably 16x10 steel d-window with something like 2.5"-3.75" backspace.

Why would the 5.0 be different? the airbox is in the same spot.

I wasn't sure if I had to worry about anything like cfm's or anything like that. I was mainly wondering how people built theirs and what worked best.

I had looked there once, I had found another site where I can get the rims for like $70 each but cant remember for the life of myself. She wants me to get the black steel wheels like I have on mine, just in 16x10 rather then 15x10. My wifes explorer is going to be a slow build so I can get everything right, i dont want to mess anything up on it.

Why? The main reason people WOT it on the trail is because they can't get traction (and WOT often leads to drivetrain problems and/or the vehicle being out of control). So focus on traction, not CFM or power.

You have to remember too that my truck is driven daily in city, on the highway and off road. I'm just trying to find what would work best. I found a snorkel head on eBay very similar to the safari (3" style) for like $25 and I may end up going that route. I just have to figure out how far up the A-pillar I want to run it.

do a search on snorkels, ive seen a few how to's on it. it wont matter between 6 or 8. its going to be all about placement. good luck!
