I have a 1992 Ford Explorer 4.0 V6 with an automatic tranny. I am looking for a snorkle for my explorer. If anyone knows where i could find one that would fit my explorer that would be very helpfull.

Yeah, I would put one on mine, if they make one like they do for the Jeeps.

I emailed ARB asking them if they would ever start making one and they said that the way they start making stuff is by having a whole bunch of requests. So you can try to email them, so that it will be another request. They also said that a place to check is http://www.safari4x4.com.au/

Hey what i did was go to ace hardware if you have one there and they sell dryer vents the look just like arb snorkel tops and i just sanded mine down and painted it and hooked it up with some pvc its way cheaper and works just as good.

hows that look? got any pics?

you can buy the ARB snorkel top and build the snorkel yourself.
Heres how mine came out:

yeah i get some pics up i just need to get my digital back

Hey sk1er17, do you have any closer pictures of your snorkel?

I can probably take some for ya tomorrow morning. What kind of shots you looking for? The head/piping/airbox/?

Piping and airbox. Thanks

ok no prob. id do it tonight but im at school and wont be home till after dark.

1 thing though- i used 3" piping. You're going to have a lot of trouble routing that in your fender... 2.5" would be perfect except they dont sell it anymore around here. So if you're serious about building a snorkel, try to get your hand on some 2.5" pvc.

This will sound stupid but you hd to cut through something right? how could i do this on my 1st gen? any ideas?

what are you referring to cutting through?

from inside/out:
-I had to cut and fab an intake box so the tubing would connect to it
-I then had to cut through the inner fenderwell to get from the engine compartment to inside my fender
-Finally i had to cut the outter fenderwall for my snorkel to emerge from.

My buddy actually did something different. he ran the 2" pvc straight through from his box to the outside of his fender and then ran it along his fender. It was a daring move having the piping external but it came out pretty good.. especially since his truck is black and he painted the pvc black. Sorry, no pics of that- and he's at school in new hampshire right now.. but ill email him and see if he has any pics from up there.

Thats a sweet ride you got, ive been looking at new hoods and i can't seem to find any good ones in the magazines, But your hood is exactly what ive been looking for, where did you get it from and do they have others?

Those are just press on lund's

Here's some close ups of the snorkel...

Need to get some rubber door trim to make the cut look neat

And yea, those are Lund Medium sized hood scoops. At one time i was planning on cutting and making them functional... but now since water often splashes over my hood, having holes there wouldnt be good for the engine compartment..

that is one nutty looking truck; not nutty in a bad way, just in a way that makes your jaw drop, you stare for a looooong time, and end up scratching your head. There is alot of stuff going on there.

Did anyone ever make fibreglass fenders for 1st gen Exploders?

i like I like. how does yours keep the water out?

1st: Perrys actually makes a complete fiberglass front end that converts 1st gens to 2nd gens.. check it out ;)

2nd: Well #1 its really high up.. so water doesnt go up there. I was planning on turning it backwards for when it rains but when i talked to the sales guy he said its not necessary. Those channels around the side of the snorkel head create a vacuum and the water gets sucked out while you're driving. I've driven in some pretty bad rain so far and havent had a problem... and my air filter hasnt been wet either.
