Thanks to the folks on here, I went on Ford's website and signed up to receive a brochure. A few weeks later, it showed up with the $750 rebate attached. I ordered my Explorer Sport. It is slated to be built next week and will arrive at the dealership about 3 weeks afterward. Here's the issue: the certificate for the rebate says that I have to take delivery of the vehicle by Feb. 15. Obviously the car isn't going to be here yet. The sales guy said that I can still get the rebate if I buy the car prior to Feb. 15 (and therefore prior to its delivery).
This gives me pause for several reasons. The main one being that I lose ALL negotiating power if they already have my money when the car gets there. On the other hand, $750 is nothing to sneeze at so I don't want to lose it on the chance that they'll try to screw me. Plus, if I pay for everything now, there's not an opportunity for them to tack on a bunch of crap I don't want or need, like window etching or paint sealant.
My sales guy has been pretty straight with me through all of this, so I don't think he would do something to jeopardize his deal. I'm more worried about the sales manager or someone along those lines, forcing the sales guy to do something.
Thoughts?
