Thanks to the folks on here, I went on Ford's website and signed up to receive a brochure. A few weeks later, it showed up with the $750 rebate attached. I ordered my Explorer Sport. It is slated to be built next week and will arrive at the dealership about 3 weeks afterward. Here's the issue: the certificate for the rebate says that I have to take delivery of the vehicle by Feb. 15. Obviously the car isn't going to be here yet. The sales guy said that I can still get the rebate if I buy the car prior to Feb. 15 (and therefore prior to its delivery).

This gives me pause for several reasons. The main one being that I lose ALL negotiating power if they already have my money when the car gets there. On the other hand, $750 is nothing to sneeze at so I don't want to lose it on the chance that they'll try to screw me. Plus, if I pay for everything now, there's not an opportunity for them to tack on a bunch of crap I don't want or need, like window etching or paint sealant.

My sales guy has been pretty straight with me through all of this, so I don't think he would do something to jeopardize his deal. I'm more worried about the sales manager or someone along those lines, forcing the sales guy to do something.

Thoughts?

You can try ordering another brochure, maybe for a different vehicle. When asked when you plan to buy, answer 1-3 months. They should send you another brochure, I would think. If it's doesn't come in the mail in time, no worries. Before you receive it, it is put into the system. You're dealer can look it up when you buy the car. I had to do that with my wife's Fusion back in 2011. I didn't get the physical rebate in time to present it.

Sorry, I have nothing to add except: Save me jeebus.(I assume jeebus comes from Homer Simpson, if not, my appologies).

Don't do it!

Unless there is a document that clearly states you can deny delivery for any reason and void the deal getting a 100% refund, I wouldn't pre-buy it... Sorry...

My sales guy was super straightforward, very nice, no BS and openly acknowledged all of the issues with my vehicle upon delivery, however fixing the issues that came with my truck was far outside of his ability no matter how badly he felt.

Hopefully someone will have a idea on how to retain the $750 or get it again for you...

Good luck!

My brochure coupon expired 3 weeks before I took delivery of my 2014 Sport. Ford took it because that brochure program was continuing. My sales guy had told me earlier he couldn't guarantee it would be ok but said it usually works since I ordered while the coupon was good.
