Now, me and the GF have modified our vacation plans to head to Southern California for two weeks (August 1st to August 16th..), and I'm considering dragging the zuk with us..

I'm considering spending the weekend (Aug 8th) in Big Bear..

We also want to head down to Seaworld in SanDiego, and a few other spots..

Hints? Tips?

thomas i am located in newport beach have you guys been there before

Old Town, Julian, The Gaslamp area downtown, USS Midway aircraft carrier and night run at Truckhaven. Thats all I can think of for now If I am in town from work Tracy and I will meet up with you one night for dinner.

What will you be driving, Tom?

There are several options.. I'm planning on the Superduty/Camper, so we can camp at the beach, if I can find a reservation/campground.. Then if I can get the zuk running, drag it behind so I can just park the truck and run around with THAT.. Last, if I can find a cheap (but good quality.. the GF is super picky) place to stay, we can always drive down with her Honda Civic CRX..

So far, the TODO list is Seaworld, San Diego Zoo. Midway carrier sounds interesting, I've been on the Hornet in Alameda..

Rodeo Drive, Mannn Chinese Theater, Robertson Blvd. Hey, I've done it with the lady...she enjoyed it a bunch. I didn't mind, it made her real happy.

Jesse Jame's shope in Longbeach is pretty cool, that guy has really built an empire. You can't see too much of the behind the scenes, but it's a cool place to say you've been.

Santa Monica Pier is cool to see, if you want to do a nice dinner "The Lobster" right there is a fun place you'll remember. Driving the "1" freeway all the way through Newport Beach and Laguna Beach is a good time as well, lot's to see, just don't be in a big hurry.

Also, I will vouch for this "Best Western" cause it's very nice at a reasonable rate. http://www.bestwesterncalifornia.co...-encinitas-inn-and-suites-at-moonlight-beach/ Plus it's a short walk to where I got engaged on moonlight beach if you want to relive the moment!!!

If you're going to beach camp it, stay right off the "1" up in Carlsbad, it's probably the best I've seen. Otherwise in San Diego are you are limited to like Ocean beach, kinda skater/hippy area.

Carlsbad State Beach Campground is nice, but Cardiff State Beach campground is nicer, just a few miles south. Both are soldout a year in advance for summertime, but both have a certain amount of spaces set aside for day-of arrivals.

Universal Studios is worth going to, and maybe Venice Beach.

Has she ever been down in SoCal, Tom?

Has she ever been down in SoCal, Tom?

Yes, she has relatives in Pasadena, has been to Disney Land, and a few other places..

Ok, I found a KOA in Chula Vista - what's the weather like during August? Any one been to this one?

Thanks!

The weather in San Diego is awesome all summer if you're within 3 miles of the ocean, but if you go inland it gets hot, like 10-15 degrees warmer.

I suppose you wonder why an AZ guy is making so many comments on a So Cal thread, I spent nearly half of my time there in 2007 while working remote, so I was all over the place and stayed all over L.A., O.C, San Diego, Inland Empire.

I'd see if you could find something North County San Diego before staying in Chulajuana.

That one's real close to the coast, so temps would be mild. It's right by the freeway though. Can you deal with that? It's also along the river, might be skeeters.

Matt, what how about the wild animal park out by your house, does it get real hot out there in the summer? Maybe do that in the morning then head to San Diego or somewhere cool:cool:

I couldn't help but notice your location says Pinole, tdavis.

What a small world. I grew up in Pinole and San Pablo for nearly all my life(even though I'm still young.) I attended Pinole Middle School and PVHS for a while before I moved away and I lived in Tara Hills.

Just to mirror what RockRanger said, Catalina Island would be really fun. My stepbrother grew up on Catalina Island for a long time and I got to visit during the summer a few times and I love it!

We need to plan a Big Bear trip for when you are down.
Try to get reservations at Silverstrand State Beach in Coronado. Its just a paved parking lot, but you are right on the water.
Maybe 90ranjo could get you a spot on the Navy base campground??

right now, it's crazy.

It's almost cheaper to get a hotel room, then to camp in San Diego. Yes, that's true.

The current plan is:

Sea World
Zoo
Catalina Island

I found tickets online for Sea World/Zoo that are for several days.

Looks like off to Pasadena, then to San Diego for 3-4 days, back to SF and then camping around here.

An update..

We'll be heading down on the 1st to Monterey Park, to pickup the GF's aunt, and then headed down to San Diego on the 2nd.

Staying at the Hilton Mission Valley, got Seaworld/Zoo/Wild Animal Park 3parks, 5 day tickets $89 ea ticket from Costco..

Then headed back north on Friday, and then we'll tool around the SF Bay area the next week.

Want to meet up for dinner one night? Tracy and I can do any evening except tuesday the 4th.
