Does anyone happen to know the size of the 4 bolts that hold the engine cover on a '99 SOHC engine?

Thanks in advance.

No idea about thread size, but I can tell you I use a 7mm socket to get them on/off.

4 bolts? thought only were 3

7mm socket
4 of them
that is all I have got :(

Yes 4 bolts and its the thread size I need. Thanks, Kevin.

it is a self tapping thread.
It just cuts into plastic

There are only 3 on your's spindle, they changed the upper intake on the 2002's and up so it has a different cover

Anyone know the answer to this? Im missing 2 on my 97, wanted to buy 4 new ones.

I'm not sure there really is a "thread size" for these things. As someone else said earlier, they're just self-tapping screws that cut into plastic. If there is a thread size/pitch, it's gonna be real wierd. I would suggest either a local junkyard (they won't miss them, and if they know you, you'll prob. get them for free) or the dealer (yeah this option will prob suck. I'm guessing they'll make you by a "master" pack of like 50. :-) )

If you really can't find any, let me know, and I'll put a few in an envelope and mail them to you.

Carguy,

Appreciate the reply. I don't know of any junkyards close enough to me to justify a trip for 2 bolts. I can paypal you a couple bucks if you'd be so kind and mail me a pair.

Let me know...thanks.

Carguy,

You are half right. At the dealer, you pay for fifty, but only get four. I paid 12 and change for a four pack.

FYI, the bolt is the same which holds the cruise cable in place.

This is correct. I dropped the screw for that in the dark, so I just used one for the engine cover. Im going to the junkyard monday, so ill pick up a few of these screws since they seem to be needed.

The used parts will be harder to find now that so many went to dealers for the CFC program. I saw no SOHC trucks last week, but two 302 Mountaineers. I didn't need anything I could think of then. Now I'm wondering if the nicer Mountaineer roof racks will fit the older Explorers. I could use them as spare also if needed.

I saw a few SOHCs at the junkyard the other day here, plus one v8 3rd gen Mountaineer. There was also a pretty decent looking pretty new Crown Vic. Looked like an old man special that got traded in for C4C. Sad to me, nice cars, trashed because people want a deal.

I noticed the Crown Vics from the late 90's are more rare and in rough shape now. I need the door moldings for my 95 P71 I had painted several years ago. I thought that they would be easier to find so I didn't look much back then. Now I need to sell it and parts are still hard to locate.

That would be awesome. I'll shoot you a couple bucks if you send me some.

This thread seems to explain it fairly well. Just get some self tapping screws at a hardware store. Maybe match the cruise control cable fastener.

My intake manifold stripped out, so I just set the cover in place. No problem with that, and I think the cover is just decorative.

Good luck.
