Howdy -

I got a Flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler for my 2001 SOHC Explorer Sport. It has dual 2.25" inlets and 1 3" out. I looked under the truck and there are two pipes coming from the header, but it goes into a collector. It seems to me that it would be hard for a shop to connect dual pipes to it? Also, if I'm correct there are two cats after it collects and one o2 sensor. I think they will have to be removed to use this exhaust, but if I have them put a o2 bung in the pipe and put it back in will I get a check engine light? How is this going to work? Everyone seems to say the daul inlet is what you want for the SOHC motor, but it seems like the single 2.25" in and whatever out would work easier. I've already got the exhaust though so I would like to use it. Suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm pretty drunk, but a single inlet on an SOHC?! Crazy!!! Dual in/single out sounds fine to me, I'm getting a dual/dual 2.25" soon!! The ladies aren't biting but they will soon enough!! Basically if you look at your stock muffler you can tell what you need, I didn;t knwo what the SOHCs for 2001 had single inlets.....I've been in the market and if things don't work out, I may be interested in buying that off you, but as far as I know it should work.....I'll double cehck this in thte morning hpefully!! And let you know!

i will see if i can get a pic of mine i have the same setup as you are looking at

Well, it's not the right one. I need a single 2.25" in and a 2.25" or 3" out. my 2001 has a single exhaust. It comes together way at the front into this iron looking collector and I've got two cats and one o2 sensor after that. So, I'm just getting one side of the inlet capped off. The guy said it will be just the same. I don't really care. I should have looked at it before I bought the muffler, but everyone was saying I wanted the dual inlets. If it sucks or sounds like crap I'll sell it!

I didn't know that the 2001's had different inlets. I wouldn't have thought of plugging one. If your inlet on the vehicle is larger then 2.25 then it would be much easier to just get the right one and I'm sure there'll be someone around here that'll take that off your hands. But it you're reducing sizes, increasing sizes and plugging stuff up then I wouldn't recommend using it.

ya with a single inlet you have many more options

too late - it's on the car and I'm about to go pick it up. We'll see.

How about some pictures?

Ford changed the SOHC muffler to a single inlet in 2001 (coincidentally the same year they offerd the 5-speed manual). Maybe the single exhaust gave them enough room for the manual. Just guessing since I haven't seen the specs on the 2001s.

Well, it's good to know that NOW

j/k

it's ok. I got it to work and it sounds nice.

hey there, i have a 98 SOCH, adn i have the dual in, single out. Right now i just have that, and then back to stock until a tip - you think i should get them to run a 2.5 or 3" all the way from the muffler, take out the ressonator and then to the tip? I've lost any hope of low end torque, and i'm scheduled to get gears around mid may....
