I prefer flowmaster.... but with easy "drop in", bolt it up and go... what's a good replace muffler (model #) for the sohc?

I believe it has a pipe from each manifold, both have their own cat, and then it runs into a single muffler.

i have a magnaflow, i like it some think it sounds riced but i dont think so. I had it done at a shop with 3.5" out for about $250

If you go with the flowmaster I'd suggest staying with either the SUV or the Delta series. I have the 50 Delta series and I am really satisfied with its sound. I stayed with stock pipes and just replaced the muffler and I get a good deep sound with just a slight hint of drone at highway speeds which is not noticable if you have the radio on.

I heard the magnaflow has a really loud drone at highway speeds on SOHC engines, sounds awesome on my OHV tho.

not on my truck, now on my buddies dodge 1500 with dules yes iy is loud, but with a little music it is not that bad, and by the way dules on v-6's dont sound that good in mine and many others opinion

everyone here is on the magnaflow kick nomatter what kind of vehicle

im goin with a magnaflow dual in 2 1/4 with one 3"out for now.

Where can that one be purchased and how much is it?

I'm perhaps on the other end of the spectrum. I am looking for a very quiet muffler - any suggestions? My stock one is falling out (I've welded it once already) so i think I'll replace it come spring.

I had lots of trouble with the Flowmaster on my '97 SOHC. My truck was built with a factory muffler having two inlets and one outlet. Flowmaster does not make this type; they only have 1 inlet and 1 outlet. I opened the exhaust system box, crawled under the truck and was surprised. I had to return the whole system (I got it from Summit Racing) and ordered a Gibson cat-back system that had the two inlets. Installation was pretty easy in subfreezing weather and it sounds good under hard acceleration, but quiet as stock at cruising throttle.

At the time, Summit didn't realize that there were some trucks with two inlets, so the catalog notes didn;t say anything about it. (they wound up eating the return freight and even giving me a small break on the Gibson system - more than fair) Flowmaster knew it, but told me they just didn;t support that system and their catalog ALSO didn;t say squat.

Moral: Find out how many muffler inlets you have BEFORE you order your exhaust and/or cut off the old one.

I beg to differ. I purchased a flowmaster SUV with 2 inlets and one outlet for use on my 97 SOHC.

Well, that's quite a different story from my experience nearly a year ago. If Flowmaster makes one, great - they make a fine product. Their technical support guys told me they didn't, so I was trying to save someone else the same frustration I had...

i have a 1999 explorer sprt 4.0 sohc. I want something loud but i don't know what to use or do. I don't really want to change the whole pipe system. What flowmaster could I use that sounds really loud with a nice rumble at idle. What is the deal with people cutting a hole in the airbox?
