sohc rear chain

i have an opritunitty to get a 97 explorer, for 2k, the only catch is that the rear chain is bad. the timing chain has just been replaced. do u guys know how much it will cost to fix the rear chain??? thanks

If no damage to the engine occured when the rear chain went, then figure on about $1500 to replace it at Ford. They'll have to pull the engine to replace the rear chain. If the engine was damaged, then figure on about $4500 for a new engine.

Rear chain went on my SOHC - spocket spun - It is an interence engine so my right valve bank got whacked. result - DOA
If it is a Kentucky recall engine I wouldn't waste any money on it
