I have a 2001 SOHC Sport. Can the rod bearings be replaced with the motor still in the car?

Anyone?? I was planning on doing this tomorrow.

maybe if you pull the trans / front diff, you probably can get the oil pan and the bed pan off.

its faster to pull the motor imo.

Are you 2wd or 4wd?

Dropping the pan is not a real problem if the truck is 2wd...Just start unbolting the oil pans and the support for them...

The bigger question is how will you correct for any out of round in the connecting rod or around the crankshaft journal with the engine in the truck? Or are you planning to not address that and just remove and replace the rod bearings, retorque the rod bolts[which are TTY I believe], and button it all back up?

As stated previously, if the truck is 4wd, then you have to remove the front drive system and part of the front suspension to get clearance to drop the oil pans...

My truck is 4x4 and it hasn't spun a bearing yet but if it was something that could be done with the motor in the truck I would replace the bearings. They are cheap and pretty easy to do. As long as there is no damage to the crank it should be fine. I have a lower end noise and the only thing I can think of down there is that a few of the bearings are worn down bad.

But if I have to remove the transmission and front differential then I might as well try and find a lower miliage 4.0.

Also I am not 100% sure that bad rod bearings are my noise I just figured that since they are cheap and don't take too long to do I would give it a shot and hope that was my problem.
