If it's been more than 75,000 miles since your rear upper timing chain tensioner has been replaced on your SOHC V6 you may be interested in the link below. My total cost for the new Ford part including shipping was $8.26. There are only eight left.

weak springs

The springs in the upper chain tensioners weaken with age. Experienced members suggest replacing them every 75,000 miles. To my knowledge Ford has not established a replacement interval. The rear tensioner is easier to replace then the front one because it is not necessary to remove the intake manifolds. You get to it by removing the right wheel and inner fender flap. I haven't done it yet but it shouldn't be much worse than changing the rear spark plug.

dang just did plugs last weekend, would have been good to do at the same time, oh well.
so does replacing the tensioner just ensure the chain never slipping?
im considering doing this with the good price, and since im at 72k

I ordered one just for the heck of it. Maybe replacing it will cure some of my odd noises, but either way I will replace it after I do the guides internally.

Only 6 left now.
