'04 FX4 Off Road Ranger
ive got an '04 ranger FX4 4.0L. i dont know if im in the market yet but probably will be some day not too far off and want to start getting some info now. what does it take to swap out the front for a silid axle with coils? what axle would i need and where could i get one. also, about what would this cost to have done?

Check out the Off-road projects forum and search around. There is a ton of info on this that will help you out. If you don't plan on it right away, you have plenty of time to look around.

And Froader didn't mention one HUGE benifit from not being in a hurry...you can find killer deals! For what I have I could have easily spent twice the amount if I wasn't on a loose time table. All i have left is some brake parts, ball joints, bearings and some bushings and i'll be finished (with the bigger stuff). All in all so far i've spent less than 800 bucks and that includes 2 axles (d44/9") gears, a 3rd, coils, wheels, and a bunch of small parts :)

You may want to consider the RCD or Dixon Brothers coil over kits. A solid axle is great for a dedicated off road rig. The coil over kits are much better when high speed driving is required. The RCD kit would likely be cheaper than a good solid axle swap.
