Hey All!

I just tuned up my 99 4.0 SOHC Explorer on sunday( what a ***** that was) anyway i used new plugs and wires, im doing the fuel filter this weekend and pcv valve. But something still doenst seem right. When im sitting in the truck and im at a light i hear a hissing, as if there is a vacume leak but no CEL and it doenst drive rough, On occasion it will make a vibration sound as it idles but is gone when i step on the gas. Today it felt like it was missing and might stall out but fine when i tapped the gas. I think my ICV needs to be replaced maybe that is the issue, any ideas? I wanna make this thing last a long time.

Also it makes a rattling noise occasionaly at idle, the guy i bought it from said its the heat sheild under the truck it kinda sounds like the same noise i had in my old car before i re-did the exhaust, just a little list hopefully i can get some things taken care of, thanks all!

I Bought Champion Plat Plugs and Pep Boys Wires 8MM.

take a look at your vacuum line to the power brake booster with particular attention to the one way valve and grommet where it enters the booster. It could have gotten ****ed a little when you were changing the lpugs and wires

for the rattle, check the heat shield on the cat and muffler if it sounds like it is coming from the mid to rear of the explorer. Also check the hangers. If it's old they can rust, break and then rattle.

^ Will check the booster line. It sounds like a pebble in a can, i know i got a small leak comming from where the muffler goes into the exhaust pipe, my plans for that im just getting a flowmaster thrown on there in place, but the main concern is the vibration i feel and hear at times at idle.

Hissing may be a vacuum leak. Are you throwing codes "AKA" having a check engine light? There is the posability of a crack in the tube going the exhaust to the EGR.

Can you provide more specific information?

no, no codes, cant really get any more specific than what i stated, other than the occasional rough idle, which could be the IAC, need to clean that again or replace it, it drives great, i do know that if there was a crack in the vac system it woudl be looping like crazy, and thow a lean code asap. tomorrow im replacing the pcv and fuel filter, im gonna pull the iac off and clean that out, i re-cehcked the plug boots to make sure when i put them back on they were tight and they are,

no its not that, after reading the post on the IAC i think thats my issue with the occasional hard vibration @ idle and roughness, im going to clean that out today, hopefully it will last till i can get a new one. thank you all for your assisance on this! im not new to the forums or cars, but im new to this particular truck, some methods work and some dont, thanks again!
