Somebody just hit and run my 1997 Explorer daily driver

The problem with taking the doors off, there's no sheet metal between you and the next degenerate douchebag that still drives like it's their first time, every time. Some people really suck at driving. I no longer slowdown for anyone who cuts me off to stop right in front of me. I've sent a few cars flying and they all have had to buy me new parts for my truck.

Don't understand why when you went left to avoid any contact, the guy also turned it left to assure there was contact? Shows intentionally causing an "accident" (which is really an "intentional").

Or, in the heat of the moment he made a mistake. Or, they were following too close and thought they were going to rear end someone, and veered left.

What would be the point? It’s not like they’re trying to get one over on insurance.

Very much doubt it was intentional.

@RangerNutt The Toyota locked up his brakes and I turned left to avoid him. I suppose that it is natural instinct for me to turn left to avoid an accident. I'm left handed so that makes it natural to me. All 3 accidents in my 47 years of driving, I have pulled left to attempt to miss the vehicle that I'm about to come in contact with. Coincidentally in all of the situations, if I had pulled to the right, I would have been in a deep ditch.
This time, the car in front of me stopped suddenly and I whipped it left to avoid it. He didn't have any turn signals on. Maybe he put on the brakes for a darn squirrel.
The law enforcement agent suggested that I not file a report because more than likely, my insurance would go up and my 26 year old vehicle would probably be "financially" totaled. In other words, more trouble than it was worth.
Remember, the other participant ran. I'm just glad that it is still drivable and all that I'm out is $139.83 for a new tire. I had 5 extra good Gen2 wheels to pick from to have the new tire mounted onto.
Ultimately this new Wrangler will end up on the '97 Moutaineer that needed a 5th tire.
Seems like I remember something said decades ago, I you have to do more than 2 "emergency" stops in a year, then something is wrong with your driving.

Those ditches are deep and very close to the road. If there was a shoulder, it would be a 4 lane road, 2 paved lanes and the unpaved passing lane to the right.

Do you drive fast? I drive only 46 mph on four lane road to my house and around 60 mph on interstate
Granny driver lol.

I'm joking of course

Speed limit is similar here

Ah see it isn't just sheet metal in the (maybe 1st as well) 2nd gen doors, though. I could be wrong, so don't quote me on that as I've never cut my door open to check.. But I know in all my other 00+ vehicles there were bar or tube reinforcements inside the doors because for crash safety they required reinforcement. Whereas in other countries it was not necessarily required. I would really believe they are not only sheet metal in there, there should be some kind of bar in there. That's what really saves you from an injury.
That being said.. Could always just go tube doors ;)

I think the officer gave you some seriously good advice. If the other guy isn't around and doesn't wanna mess with it... **** it. He's right I really believe the insurance would go up and it would be financially totaled, that's a headache nobody needs. Honestly, if that were my outcome of that sort of a situation, I'd probably just die. Hahahah

I was trying to talk him into a 302 for his 87 Aerostar and his response was, the van won't see over 50 mph. Which that's fine, 8 cylinders gets it to 50 mph faster than a 3.0 will

Ya, and NC troopers are famous for setting speed traps at bottom of hills. That's rotten! Not enforcement, more like entrapment. The public would be better served by 1) Fair and honest speed trap placement and, 2) More time spent on things like hunting down hit-and-run drivers. [/rant]

That was pretty harsh, considering the source..

With my Explorer in its current off road based set up, I don't even move when people are stupid enough to try to get close and personal. The only thing I worry about is someone coming over into a tire, and it grabbing their car, which could flop the Explorer.

I had a guy come at me the wrong way down a one way lane parking lot in a Eclipse. I just sat I the middle of the lane until he backed up, knowing I could drive forward and make it completely over his car. If he didn't move, I figured he would if I got out and locked the front hubs.

Not saying anything bad, it was stated as unneeded information, I simply disagree.

I guess this is one of your first forum experiences.. No biggie. This is a thing we've all been doing since the dawn of forum signatures. Quotes in sigs are like bumper stickers. Except your friends made them for you, or whatever.
You can disagree, but it won't make it go away.. Knowing that, good on you for voicing your opinion, but I'm guessing you've now learned that it did not change what you did not like.

By source I meant a guy who submits how to videos without actually knowing how to....

I thought you meant the a-hole in the signature.
