OK so it's a Postal Jeep.
Does anyone know of anyone who converted one of these to 4X4? or a write-up on the net?
It was free so I'm thinking if it's not too expensive to convert, it may be a good beater. (keep the X's metal smooth)

over the years - i've seen a couple that have been converted to 4x4 - they looked kinda neat, but it's funny - now that you ask i can't remember if they were left or right hand drive after the conversion, which is yours now?

The steering and gas are on the left and the brake is still on the right.:D They were working on making a better mount for the brakes when they got sidetracked.

who needs the brakes anyway;)
just have a passenger with you and when they get scared enough, they'll slow down:D

That's so cool!!! How come I can never be lucky enough for something like that to happen? :(

Well I got it home.

Not bad for the price. (total investment so far is $10 for beer to con my cousin into helping me get it home)

hell, I just got myself a 90 Limited Cherokee...... for $400.00 - which isn't that bad....... so now instead of converting my 98 Sport I'm gonna turn the XJ strictly into a trail machine.....
and keep the X clean

go fir it!

I want to find a good deal like that. No one is trying to get rid of trucks that badly in Atlanta.

You mean I only saved $400 going with the DJ? :p
Oh well I guess it'll do.

I wanna $400 Cherokee too. :bounce:

those deals are just around the corner sometimes.... at least this one was... and I've seen more. Sometimes I wish I had a large lot or parking of some sorts so I can store all the "deals" I come accross. About a year ago I got a 92 Subaru Legacy 4wheeldrive for free...... sold it further - needed storage in garage. Look around, knock on doors. Sometimes when you notice a truck just sitting there leave a note for the owner - might get lucky.

deals are out there.....;)

Hey Dre my buddy Matt is in the Process of putting Dana 44s front and rear in his XJ and gonna run some 36 to 38s on it. He had the front and rear locked up with lockrites if you are maybe interested he's stopping over this evening

I've thought about it all before, and there are a bunch of requirements for a truck deal that I could get. It'd have to be under $1000, it'd have to be from 1977 or earlier, and it'd have to be at least semi-running at the point that I get it. Otherwise I couldn't get it. The chances of me finding a deal like that are so small.

Around the corner from me, a 1983 Toyota pick-up is for sale. Auto trans, essentially no frills, aftermarket rear bumper and hitch, but no other mods. 107,000 miles. It's $3500. That's the kind of market I'm living in :(
