Hi Folks,
Great forum, first post for a man who said "nah...I ain't gonna buy an old shogun, I need an old explorer!!!" and I am starting to regret that comment!
Aside from the camchain errr 'issue' that I just resolved, at a price!, I have a couple of problems with the brakes that are driving me up the wall.
The first problem was the noise coming from the front end, really loud, really annoying. Changed the pads and the discs and the noise (virtually) went away. Now I am getting a "Chuff.....Chuff....chuff" noise from the the front end when braking.
The second problem is the perennial issue of abs coming on at low speed (1-2mph) frightened the Carp out of me on the first event, and you could hear the modulator and feel the pedal pumping. There was no ABS warning light at any stage, So....I changed the front sensors, to no avail.
I disconnected the ABS and the low speed activation issue went away.
Today, I connected up to a mate's laptop and it read a bunch of error codes commensurate with the ABS being disconnected, and after resetting absolutely no error codes found!
So then, since the ABS unit works, throws out no error codes whatsoever, the sensors check out but its still doing what it shouldn't, I have kind of convinced myself of the fault, but need someone to argue with me and tell my why I am wrong:
1. On the PC All sensors check out, ABS checks out, so it actually 'thinks' that the wheels are skidding
2. No traction control to fool the ABS
3. Chuff Chuff Chuff noise on braking due to some mechanical issue.
Therefore, the front hubs have gone, the bearing giving 'Chuff' and also, runout in a worn bearing (and so tone ring) fools the ABS to think that it is skidding...
Now please tell me why I am wrong before I buy new hubs!!
Thanks Guys. Tally ho!
Neil
p.s Now I can feel the bloody coursing through my veins accompanied by a voice in my head saying Shogun, Shogun, Shogun!
