I know you've heard this before, but I cannot get a straight answer from anyone.
I have a 95 explorer Eddie Bauer. The heat blows hot air on high fan speed and will switch from defrost to both floor and defrost. I have heard it could be caused by the flapper behind the glove compartment. I am confused on how this regulates fan speed, and can cause the heat to switch around from defrost to both defrost and floor. For now I took out the fuses, but it's starting to get cold up here in the Northeast. Any other ideas???...

DO a search on the blend door.. Its.

Thanks, I am going to try that 'Blend Door Fix'. It doesn't sound likes it's too hard.

If you fan is only working on High, then the resistor is shot. If it only blows air out of the defrost/floor, then chances are the vacuum connection for the settings is bad (Door that redirects air from panel to floor to defrost ect. is run on vacuum from the engine). If your system only blows hot air in all settings except Max A/C, no matter where the temp control is set, then you have a blend door problem.

I don't know how to fix your problem, but I just want to chime in and make it an official Dutchess thread ;)

Tom, Thanks for the info. I put the fuses back in and did another analysis of the problem. Fan speed works fine. Hot air is blowing from defrost only. Even in MaxAC, I get Hot air from defrost. If vacuum issue, any other advice.

Thanks.

I just want to thank this forum for helping me with my problem. After further investigating, I found out the heater control valve was not moving up or down (possible vacuum problem). I followed the vacuum line for it and found another vacuum line hanging there. Took a quick look around and noticed the vacuum ball was missing a line. Hooked it up and everything works great.

thanks again!!!

Glad to hear you fixed it.
