Hey all,

Still relatively new to this forum so I appreciate any help that can be provided. I did a search for this, but it's difficult to find much on it. Obviously, a rattle sounds different to everyone so this may be a bit difficult to describe. I have a 2017 Explorer Sport with about 3k miles on it. I am experiencing a rattle, which almost sounds like something is loose under the vehicle - like a spare tire is rattling around. I can hear it when I go over little bumps - the noise is pronounced but not loud. If the radio is on you cannot hear it. I tried checking in the spare tire area and it seems that everything is tightened down. I have tried moving the third row up, which seems to make the noise get quieter or get rid of it completely.

Has anyone had an experience like this? Thank you all in advance.

If putting the 3rd row in the raised position affects or eliminates the 'rattle' I would concentrated on that area for the possible source. Perhaps the mechanical links? I can't see the 3rd row position affecting anything under the vehicle.

Thanks Peter - I suppose I will concentrate more on that area. I'll have to try and see if I can isolate it and then potentially bring it into the dealership

If you can duplicate it, why not just have the dealer fix it under warranty?

Yes, certainly should think about doing that. I will see if it persists over the next few days and then make an appt if it keeps up and I can continue to replicate

The only thing I can think of that would change with the position of the third row is if mounting bolts are loose. Maybe put a wrench on the seat mounting bolts? It could also be in the seats/mechanism.

It honestly did sound like it could be metal rattling around, so perhaps the seat mounting bolts...they would be at the bottom of the seat where it makes contact with the body I assume.

Thanks again
